Use your design wall to keep motivated

I find that when life interrupts your projects, having the work in progress on your design wall helps to keep you motivated. Walking past the design wall, even when sewing time is put on hold, helps to keep the project fresh in your mind.

Of course, I could probably do with more than one design wall - but that involves the studio fantasy!

There is a lot going on at our place at the moment, and even though I know that I'll eventually get back to everything, it is nice to see the "in progress" projects in my sewing area waiting for me.

Blocks underway

On the weekend, I made a start on the stitching for the blocks, only to find that I didn't have a wool fabric the right colour. So after a quick trip out to find these lovely greens - I was ready to go.

After a bit of juggling with the wool to figure out the easiest way to mark the leaf designs - I made a plastic template which I hold onto and cut around. This is very easy because they are such small shapes. I have a completed stack of blocks already and hope to get some more done this week.

Still loving those yo-yos

All my good intentions for continuing with the quilts I started in class in Toowoomba went out the door when I returned home to the madness! Once again I find myself looking for something easy to pick up and put down in those spare moments. So of course I just had to start another project!

I got the idea from a book that I bought while in Toowoomba, by Barri Sue Gaudet -

You can probably see from the photo, how much this table has been loved over the years from all the scratches and dents. It's place has always been just next to the kitchen and I suppose that's why it's been used for just about everything you can think of. It has lots of character now!

The yo-yos and the blocks went together very quickly last weekend and the fabrics are all last bits and pieces from my stash (I'm trying to use it up - honestly!). I'm now working on the applique and stitching. It's nice to do some handwork again after all that machine stitching in the classes!
